    #What is the SimpliHome dashboard?

    The dashboard is your household's daily command centre. It surfaces the most important information from across your Circle in one view — today's events, upcoming bills, pending tasks, vehicle renewals, and the latest activity from your household feed.

    It's designed to answer the question: "What do I need to know right now?" without requiring you to navigate through every section of the app.


    #Why does my dashboard look different from another household member's?

    The dashboard adapts based on your permission level within the Circle.

    • Admins (Circle Owner and Secondary Admin) see the full dashboard including financial data, upcoming bills, vehicle renewals, and all household activity
    • Family members see a focused view with today's events, tasks, and the news feed — without the financial and bills sections
    • Relatives and Friends are redirected to the News Feed rather than the dashboard, as their access is read-only

    This is intentional. Admin-level household management information (bills, finances, renewals) is only surfaced for the people responsible for managing it.


    #What does the "Today's Events" panel show?

    It shows every calendar event scheduled for today across all household members. Each event displays:

    • The event title and time
    • Which household member the event belongs to (colour-coded by person)
    • Location, if one was added

    Admins and Family members also see a + Add Event button on this panel to quickly create a new event without leaving the dashboard.


    #What does the "Upcoming Bills" panel show?

    Bills due to renew within the next 30 days, sorted by urgency. For each bill you'll see:

    • The provider name and bill type
    • How many days until renewal
    • The estimated amount
    • A direct link to the full bill record

    Bills closest to their renewal date are highlighted so you can take action — shop around, negotiate, or set a reminder — before they auto-renew.

    This panel is only visible to Admins.


    #What is the Financial Overview panel?

    A summary of your Circle's finances, visible to Admins only. It shows:

    • Total balance across all connected bank accounts
    • Month-to-date spending compared to your budget
    • A snapshot of recent transactions

    For a full breakdown, click through to the Finances section. The dashboard panel is a quick read, not a full analysis.


    #What are the "Vehicle Renewals" shown on the dashboard?

    Any upcoming MOT expiry, road tax renewal, or insurance expiry for vehicles registered in your Circle — flagged before they become overdue.

    Click on any renewal to go directly to the car record and take action.


    #What is the "Tasks Due Soon" panel?

    Pending items from your Circle's to-do lists that are due today or already overdue. A + Add Task quick action lets you add a new item to the default list without leaving the dashboard.


    #Why am I being redirected to the News Feed instead of seeing the dashboard?

    Your account has a Relatives or Friends permission level. Members with these levels have read-only access to the Circle's public content, and are directed to the News Feed as their home screen rather than the full household management dashboard.

    If you believe your permission level should be higher, ask your Circle's Admin or Owner to update it in Settings → Circle Members.


    #Can I customise what appears on my dashboard?

    Not currently. The dashboard layout is fixed and adapts automatically based on your permission level. Customisable dashboard panels are something we're considering for a future update.


    #How often does the dashboard data refresh?

    The dashboard loads fresh data each time you visit the page. If you leave the tab open for an extended period and want to see the latest information, simply refresh the page.


    #The dashboard shows a bill or MOT as due soon but I've already renewed it. What should I do?

    Update the record in SimpliHome:

    • For a bill: Go to Bills, open the record, and update the renewal date to the new date
    • For a vehicle: Go to Cars, open the vehicle, and update the MOT, road tax, or insurance renewal date

    Once the record is updated, the dashboard will no longer flag it as upcoming.


    #Can I add events or tasks directly from the dashboard?

    Yes, if you're an Admin or Family member. The Today's Events panel and Tasks panel each have a quick-add button that lets you create a new item without navigating away from the dashboard.
