#How do I add a recipe to SimpliHome?
You can add recipes in two ways:
Import from a URL:
- Go to Recipes and click Add Recipe
- Paste the URL of a recipe from a supported website
- SimpliHome imports the title, ingredients, steps, and nutritional information automatically
- Review and save
Add manually:
- Click Add Recipe
- Enter the recipe name, description, ingredients, and step-by-step instructions
- Add nutritional information if known
- Choose a mealtime category (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- Save
#Which recipe websites can I import from?
SimpliHome supports automatic recipe importing from:
- BBC Good Food
- Jamie Oliver
- Joe Wicks / The Body Coach
- Good Housekeeping UK
- Good Housekeeping US
- MOB Kitchen
Paste a URL from any of these sites and SimpliHome handles the rest. For other sites, add the recipe manually.
#How do I build a meal plan?
- Go to Meal Planner (or Planner in the navigation)
- Click on a day in the weekly view
- Either select a recipe from your library or type a quick note (like "Leftovers" or "Eating Out")
- Repeat for each meal slot you want to plan
You can plan for breakfast, lunch, and dinner separately, and you can mix proper recipes with simple text notes.
#Can I add a meal to the planner without a full recipe?
Yes. When adding a meal to the planner, you can simply type a name like "Takeaway", "Leftovers", "Sandwich", or any other note. You don't need to have a full recipe in your library to plan a meal — quick text entries work just as well for simple days.
#How do I assign meals to specific household members?
When adding a meal to the planner, you can assign it to specific Circle members. This is useful when different family members have different meals on the same day — packed lunches for children, different dinners for adults.
#Can SimpliHome filter recipes by dietary requirements or allergies?
Yes. Recipes can be tagged with allergy and dietary information. When you know a household member has an allergy (set in their Circle Member profile), you can filter the recipe list to show only recipes that are safe for them.
Add allergy tags when creating or editing a recipe to enable this filtering.
#How do I mark a recipe as a favourite?
Open the recipe and use the Favourite option (usually a star or heart icon). Favourited recipes appear in a dedicated section and are prioritised in meal planning suggestions.
#Can I clone or duplicate a recipe?
Yes. Open a recipe and use the Clone or Duplicate option. This creates an identical copy that you can then customise — useful for creating variations of a base recipe (e.g., a standard pasta sauce and a version with different ingredients).
#What nutritional information can I track?
Recipes support detailed nutritional data per serving:
- Calories
- Protein, carbohydrates, fat
- Fibre, sugar, salt
- Vitamins and minerals (if available)
When importing from supported sites, nutritional data imports automatically where the source website provides it.
#Can I categorise recipes by mealtime?
Yes. Each recipe can be assigned a mealtime category:
- Breakfast
- Lunch
- Dinner
When building your meal plan, the planner can filter recipes by mealtime to show only appropriate options for each slot.
#Can I add cuisine types to recipes?
Yes. Tag recipes with cuisine types (Italian, Indian, Mexican, etc.) to make filtering and browsing easier. When you have a library of 50+ recipes, cuisine tags make it much easier to find what you're looking for.
#How do I view the full ingredient list for a recipe?
Open the recipe record to see the complete ingredient list with quantities and units, step-by-step instructions, and all nutritional and allergy information.
#Is the recipe library shared across my whole household?
Yes. The recipe library is Circle-scoped — any Admin or authorised member can add recipes, and all household members with appropriate access can view them. The meal plan is also shared, giving the whole household visibility of what's planned for the week.
#Can I delete a recipe?
Yes. Open the recipe record and use the Delete option. Note that deleting a recipe that's been used in past meal plans removes it from those plans too — if you want to keep the history, consider editing the recipe rather than deleting it.
